Result of Los Angeles Qualifying Tournament

Los Angeles Qualifying Tournament was held on 2nd November 2017 at Sushi Chef Institute and 6 chefs competed for their technical expertise and passion for Japanese food.

 

The first section was cooking technique (basic knife skills) test for 30 minutes.

From one 15cm long daikon radish, contestants had to make Daikon katsura muki (30cm), Daikon ken (for roughly three people), Daikon wagiri, shikishi giri and tanzaku giri. There was a peaceful atmosphere before the test, but once the test started, it changed to strict mood.

 

The second section was cooking their original recipe of “Suimono”(for five people) in 90minutes, which they have submitted for the application screening.

 

And the winner is …

1st place: Samuel Flores Garcia [Mexico] – Restaurante Suntory Lomas

For the 2nd and 3rd place were

2nd place: Matt Weaver [USA]- Raku Gourmet Inc, Aburiya Raku
3rd place: David Schlosser [USA] – Shibumi

Samuel grasped the chance to the Final in Tokyo! Please give him a round of applause.

Thank you all for being a part of the LA Qualifying Tournament. We encourage all the competitors who did not qualify this time, to come back and take the challenge again.
